Community Builders: Icebreaker Questions

icebreakersThese 20 questions are a great way to break the ice and get young people talking to each other.

Simply pick one or two of these questions and give everyone a turn to share, or write out a bunch of questions onto strips of paper, shuffle them and have everyone take turns picking one out at random.

  1. What’s your favourite app on your phone?
  2. Choose or make up an X-Men power that you would love to possess.
  3. As a child growing up, what did you most want to be?
  4. What song would you put on to get the party started?
  5. If you were in the circus, what would be your act?
  6. What is one thing your parents do that you would do differently if you have kids?
  7. Name a talent that you don’t have, but that you would love to have.
  8. If you could choose anyone (dead or alive) to be your mentor, who would you pick?
  9. Of all the animals in the world, which would be your ideal pet?
  10. If you could be famous for anything, what would it be?
  11. If you could pick your own name, what would you choose?
  12. Who is your all time favourite cartoon/animated character?
  13. If you could pick a major event (e.g. sporting, musical etc) anywhere in the world, what would you go to?
  14. What would your best day off involve?
  15. What book/film/youtube clip have you enjoyed recently?
  16. What’s your favourite band/musician/music genre?
  17. If you could pick someone to sit next to on a long plane ride, who would you pick?
  18. (Apart from biblical characters) Who do you think was one of the greatest human beings that ever lived?
  19. Name one thing that kind of bugs you.
  20. What extreme (adrenaline rush) activity would you most like to do?
