What I’ve Done

In this farewell
There’s no blood
There’s no alibi
‘Cause I’ve drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies

So let mercy come
And wash away
What I’ve done

I’ll face myself
To cross out what I’ve become
Erase myself
And let go of what I’ve done

Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands of uncertainty

So let mercy come
And wash away
What I’ve done

I’ll face myself
To cross out what I’ve become
Erase myself
And let go of what I’ve done

For what I’ve done
I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I’m forgiving what I’ve done!!!

What I’ve done
Forgiving what I’ve done

Ask

  • What is the singer asking for?
  • Why?
  • Who is he talking to/asking?

Link 1 – Luke 15

There’s a well known story in the Bible where a young man gets to the point when … if it was a musical you could imagine him breaking out and singing this very song.

READ or ACT OUT The Lost Son. Luke 15:11-32

Jesus told this story because people had the wrong idea about what God is really like.
Who is God most like in this story?

Link 2 – Psalm 51

What images/ideas does the songwriter use to describe what he wants to do? (Eg. clean slate, washed away, cross out)

Read Psalm 51

God wants us to be honest when we screw up – like Linkin Park

He will forgive us when we are sorry: clean slate, washed away, start again

Why? He loves you and he believes that when you screw up – it’s a mistake. When you’re sorry it proves that. So he lets you start again

Close

Close with 1 John 1:8-9 and prayer for forgiveness

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
